Helping Students Determine Their Future Career Path

PERKASIE – Sen. Jarrett Coleman (R-16) hosted a Career and Tech Expo on Oct. 9 in partnership with the Upper Bucks County Technical School (UBCTS) which benefitted hundreds of Bucks and Lehigh County students trying to determine their future career.

The event included over 50 exhibitors from business, government and non-profit sectors to showcase career and educational opportunities for students graduating from high school.

They covered multiple Career and Technical Education program areas including but not limited to computer science, construction, transportation, human services, agriculture, advanced manufacturing, culinary and life and health services.

“High school students have a lot of opportunities and need to make important decisions about their future,” Coleman said. “It can be a real challenge to understand what’s out there and then narrow down their options. The expo gave students an opportunity to have in-person discussions with exhibitors representing various job fields and ask some questions to help them decide what career path they want to follow.”

UBCTS Executive Director Dr. Michael Herrera said “UBCTS is proud to partner with employers and community leaders to strengthen our region’s workforce. This expo highlighted the powerful role of career and technical education in preparing students for in-demand careers that support thriving communities”

Reps. Shelby Labs (R-143) and Craig Staats (R-145) also participated in the event.

“Career and technical education opens doors for students who want to build real skills and step directly into rewarding careers,” said Labs. “I was happy to co-host this event with my colleagues to bring employers, educators, and families together in one place, allowing students the ability to learn about the opportunities available to them. Thank you to Upper Bucks Technical School for being such a strong partner in making it happen.”

“It was a great day,” Staats said. “A lot of parents came out, and the students learned about the many career paths available to them. I’m glad they had the chance to speak directly with employers and educators who could help them think about their next steps.”
