HARRISBURG – Sen. Jarrett Coleman (R-16) was assigned to serve on seven standing Senate committees during the 2025-26 legislative session: Intergovernmental Operations as chair; Finance as vice chair; Community, Economic and Recreational Development (CERD); Education; Game and Fisheries; Urban Affairs and Housing; and Appropriations.
“After a bill is drafted, it moves to the appropriate committee for review. Committees play a critical role in assessing the merits of the legislation and whether it warrants moving to the full Senate for consideration,” Coleman said. “As a committee member, I will always vote with the goal of returning government to the people – blocking bad bills and supporting those that would improve Pennsylvanians’ lives.”
Committees provide legislative oversight and help shape the language in bills that fall under their areas of responsibility.
The Appropriations Committee considers legislation for its fiscal impact and plays a crucial role in negotiating and developing the state budget.
The CERD Committee supports business growth and development by working closely with the Department of Community and Economic Development on issues pertaining to the state’s various grant and loan programs.
The Education Committee focuses on topics related to the state’s education system, including school safety, funding issues and post-secondary opportunities for students.
The Finance Committee oversees changes to Pennsylvania’s tax codes, including any future tax increases or cuts.
The Intergovernmental Operations Committee reviews proposals to restructure and streamline state government.
The Game and Fisheries Committee works in unison with the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission to manage and protect the commonwealth’s natural resources. It considers legislation affecting hunting, fishing and conservation.
The Urban Affairs and Housing Committee assesses legislation related to vacant and unimproved public lands; public housing; urban development; and land banks, condominiums, cooperatives and planned communities.
