Sign Up Today for Oct. 9 Scam Jam Hosted by Senator Coleman

ALLENTOWN – Sen. Jarrett Coleman (R-16) is inviting residents to join his office on Thursday, Oct. 9, for a Scam Jam seminar and learn how to spot and avoid fraud and scams. The event will run from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lower Milford Fire Company, 1601 Limeport Pike in Coopersburg.

“We are seeing an increase in the amount of scam attempts being made to take advantage of Pennsylvanians,” said Coleman. “It is because of this that I am hosting this Scam Jam seminar – residents should be aware of how to continue to spot these scams and avoid the financial trouble they can cause.”

Featured speakers for the seminar include Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan, Perkasie Borough Police Community Program Victim Advocate Chris Doheny, and representatives from the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General and AARP.

“Scammers targeting elderly residents are unfortunately common and they are able to change their techniques with the goal of stealing money and evading law enforcement,” Holihan said. “By informing residents about these predators and what to look for, our goal is to educate the community and hopefully prevent anyone from becoming a victim.”

“Individuals targeted by scams and fraud can see their lives turned upside down by a crime that is not just financial, but also emotional,” Doheny said. “Knowledge about common scams and ways to protect yourself are critical to ensuring that our most vulnerable populations do not find themselves in harm’s way. When fraud does take place, it is important to know how to react quickly to have the best chance at a fast recovery.”

Bucks and Lehigh County residents must register to attend. To RSVP, visit www.senatorcoleman.com/events.
