HARRISBURG – Sen. Jarrett Coleman (R-16) and Rep. Milou Mackenzie (R-131) today announced a state grant of nearly $90,000 to help Upper Milford Township Volunteer Fire Company of Lehigh County purchase fire equipment.
Specifically, the funding will be used to purchase and install hoses, nozzles and connections to be outfitted on the fire company’s new fire truck.
“The lifesaving equipment firefighters need is often extremely expensive. Volunteer fire companies work very hard to keep us safe and raise the money they need to purchase necessary equipment. However, it can still be challenging to hold enough soup and bake sales to cover costs this large,” Coleman said. “I’m pleased to see gaming proceeds benefitting our community.”
The grant was awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority through its Local Share Account Program, which funds projects concerning the public interest, community improvement and economic development using gaming money generated by casinos.
“I am so happy to see that Upper Milford Western Fire Company #1 is receiving the grant funds they have requested! The grant money is essential in helping the fire company to replace outdated equipment and I know this will help keep our firefighters safe and benefit our entire community,” Mackenzie said. “As always, I wish to thank all the brave firefighters who serve so valiantly, faithfully and selflessly in serving the 131st District and beyond!”
