HARRISBURG – Rep. Zach Mako (R-Lehigh/Northampton) and Sen. Jarrett Coleman (R-Lehigh/Bucks) today announced they helped secure a $250,000 Greenway, Trails and Recreation Program grant to improve Neffs Valley Park in North Whitehall Township.
Mako and Coleman advocated for the funding through this Commonwealth Financing Authority program, which funds projects for planning, acquisition, development, rehabilitation and repair of greenways, recreational trails, open spaces and parks. It is one of several Marcellus Legacy Fund programs established under Act 13 of 2012.
“This park is the only one in the northwest region of the township,” Mako said. “As such, the improvements will create more recreational opportunities closer to home for residents. I’m pleased to see these plans come to fruition.”
“Adding accessibility features and additional parking will help more members of our community enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. I’m pleased that Rep. Mako and I were able to secure funding to help fund improvements at Neffs Park,” Coleman said.
The funding will be used to reconstruct streambanks; add an ADA-compliant, multi-use walking trail; add a foot bridge over Coplay Creek; and construct a parking lot at the park.
The 183rd House District includes Lowhill and North Whitehall townships and Slatington Borough in Lehigh County. It also consists of Allen, East Allen, Lehigh and Moore (part) townships, and Bath, North Catasauqua, Northampton and Walnutport boroughs in Northampton County.
