Coleman: Local School Officials to Testify Tuesday at Senate Hearing about Costly State Rules for Schools

ALLENTOWN – Sen. Jarrett Coleman (R-16) will participate in a Senate Education Committee hearing Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Parkland School District Administrative Center, 1210 Springhouse Road, Allentown, where legislators will hear from the district superintendent, the Upper Bucks Technical School executive director and other testifiers about costly state rules for schools and how those expenses affect local taxpayers.

The hearing about school mandate relief comes as schools in the area and across Pennsylvania use limited taxpayer resources to balance the sometimes-conflicting requirements to provide each student with a quality education while also complying with costly and time-consuming state rules.

Participants will include:

  • Parkland School District Superintendent Mark Madson;
  • Upper Bucks Technical School Executive Director Michael Herrara;
  • Andy Christ, senior director of education policy, Pennsylvania School Boards Association;
  • Tina Checkan, CEO and superintendent, Propel Charter Scools.
